SCHUELER:  Thousands of people have fled New Orleans due to Hurricane Katrina.  One million people are estimated to be homeless after the hurricane passes over the city of New Orleans.  The category-five storm is the most severe hurricane ever to approach the United States.  Deputy Director of the Louisiana State University Hurricane Center, Ivor van Heerden, realizes the magnitude of the hurricane.
