SCHUELER: No Stranger to the short end of the stick, Sergei Mali, born in the Soviet Union during the Cold War, believes that beneath the surface, many of Columbia’s citizens are being deprived their freedom, similar to how he was deprived by the Soviet Union. [:13]

SCHUELER:  After discovering the deprivation, Sergei took political science and American government classes at S-I-U and started attending Columbia city counsel meetings. [:09]

SCHUELER: Sergei feels the biggest problem in Columbia is real estate taxes and as mayor plans to lower these taxes. [:06]
